Pratapgarh/ UP. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Pratapgarh conducted ‘Millet Recipe Contest’ as part of international year of millets on month of July & august at three block of Kalakankar, Sandwa Chandrika, Kunda with the aim to create mass awareness about nutritional importance of millet and give a thrust to its large scale production.


KVK head-cum-senior scientist Dr. A. K. Srivastava, highlighted the adaptability and nutritional value of millet while SMS (home science) Dr. Swati Deepak Dubey advised woman farmers and SHGs to ensure value addition of millet production and inclusion of millet based product in daily diet.


One hundred fifty three women farmers and SHG members participated in the contest. The aim of the programme was to create awareness and impart knowledge on millet based bio cultural diversity and adaptation by creating and demonstrating culinary creativities in making traditional foods.

The contest saw enthusiastic participation of women and SHGs members, who showcased numerous millet made traditional items.


A four-member panel comprising of KVK scientist and village chairman and anganwadi worker of the respective villages rated the recipes made out of pearl millets, ragi, makka, jowar. Delicious recipes bajra, laddo, bajra tikki, bajra biscuit, bajra khichdi, bajra ghughri, ragi urad kachaudi, ragi shake, makka halwa, makka pakaudi, etc .were prepared and presented.
Based on organoleptic test scoring of judges on different parameters, 15 winners were selected and awarded with gifts and certificates.
